SECURITY FOR FREEDOM, THE IMPOSSIBLE TRADE:
HOW THE LACK OF HUMAN RIGHTS LED TO THE CURRENT CRISIS IN NAHR EL-BARED

In light of the recent events, started on Friday June 15th 2012, that erupted in the area of Nahr el-Bared camp and consequently sparked reactions in several others Palestinian refugee camps all around Lebanon, the Palestinian Human Rights Organization (PHRO) has decided to issue the attached statement, through which we aim to help clarify the situation and suggest a few policy measures that, if immediately implemented, could significantly reduce the risk of other exploitations of the Palestinian refugees at the hand of parties and factions from the whole national and international political spectrum.

قرير (حقوق) حول الإنتهاكات الجسيمة التي وقعت أثناء إحياء الذكرى 63 لـ"النكبة" على الحدود اللبنانية بتاريخ 15 أيار/مايو 2011

تنشر (حقوق) تقريرها هذا، باللغة العربية، بعد مرور أسبوع ونيف على وقوع الجريمة النكراء التي ارتكبها الجنود الإسرائيليون بحق مدنيين عُزل كانوا يحييون الذكرى 63 لـ"النكبة" على الحدود اللبنانية في بلدة مارون الراس الجنوبية. وتشير (حقوق) إلى أنها اعتمدت في هذا التقرير على شهادات جمعها مراقبو المنظمة الميدانيين في وحدة رصد وتوثيق الانتهاكات، من المشاركين/ات في المسيرة الذي جرى يوم الأحد 15 أيار (مايو) 2011 في بلدة مارون الراس الحدودية، بعد انتهاء المسيرة، ومقابلات أجراها فريق عمل المنظمة مع الضحايا وذويهم، في منطقتي جنوب لبنان وشماله، ومقابلات مع بعض المنظمين، ومشاهدات مباشرة لمراقبي المنظمة وأعضائها الذين واكبوا المسيرة ميدانياً.

بيان صحفي: بعد وفاة الطفل محمد طه بسبب رفض معالجته: المطلوب تحديد المسؤوليات وإيجاد الحلول الدائمة

لم تكن وفاة الطفل الفلسطيني محمد طه (11 عاما) يوم الإثنين 7 آذار (مارس) 2011، سابقة بحد ذاتها وإن كانت مأساة جديدة تقع على اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في لبنان ضمن سلسلة المآسي التي يعيشونها منذ أيام اللجوء الأول قبل نحو 62 عاما، لكن لتلافي استمرار المآسي هذه التي تتكرر، يتوجب تحديد المسؤوليات وإيجاد الحلول الدائمة.

THE OBSERVATORY for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders

The Observatory has been informed by the Palestinian Human Rights Organisation (PHRO), an NGO operating in Lebanon, of death threats against its General Director, Mr. Ghassan Abdallah, and its Vice President, Mr. Edward Kattoura, as well as of threats against PHRO members in general.
According to the information received, since April 2008, Messrs. Abdallah and Kattoura have been receiving threats by individuals from Rachideh Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, in particular from Mr. Jamal Mahmoud Dandashli, a Palestinian refugee living in Rachideh Camp and responsible for a Military Unit in the Fateh Movement, in order to force them to cease working on a case which shows Mr. Dandashli’s involvement in a series of human rights violations.

Serious Challenge Reached Threatening Our Lives at the PHRO (Follow up Report)

This report was prepared as a matter of follow up and update to our previous report dated May 23rd, 2008 and titled “Executive Report: Serious Challenge Reached Threatening Our Lives at the PHRO - Your Urgent Action is Needed”. Within this present report, we aim at spotting the light on the developments that took place from May 24th to June 7th, 2008 with respect to the case(s) [Mr. Rabieh Rashed Hussien [RRH] kidnapping, Mr. Abdelaziz Tarakji [AT] received threats and Mrs. Nisreen Mahmoud Dandashli [NJD] protection] that are gradually following up since April 11th. The following report, in particular, will provide a summary on the progress related to:

  1. The victims (Rabieh and Nisreen) and their statements

  2. The threats that we received due to being following up these cases

  3. The settlements (mechanism and conditions) that took place so far

(حقوق) تفوض رسمياً من قبل المتضررين بمتابعة قضاياهم

نتيجة للتطورات التي أعقبت متابعتنا لحادثة اختطاف السيد ربيع حسين بتاريخ 8 نيسان 2008 في مخيم الرشيدية، قامت المنظمة بتوكيل محامية عن كل من السيد عبد العزيز طارقجي "رئيس الجمعية الفلسطينية لحقوق الإنسان (راصد)" والسيد ربيع حسين وذلك بناء على طلبهم منا مساعدتهم ومساندتهم في متابعة قضاياهم وتفويضهم لنا بموجب وكالات رسمية غير قابلة للعزل، بمعنى أنه لا يمكن التراجع عنها، ولا تسقط/ينتفي العمل بها في حال حدث مكروه لأي من السادة أعلاه.

بعد إغلاق دام لمدة شهر ونصف بسبب التهديدات (راصد) تعلن عن إعادة فتح مكتبها

تعلنالجمعية الفلسطينية لحقوق الإنسان (راصد) عن إعادة فتح مكتبها الكائن في مخيم عين الحلوة للاجئين الفلسطينيين في لبنان، وذلك بعد أن تمت معالجة الأسباب التي أدت لاتخاذ هذه الاجراءات الاحترازية، عبر إتمام تسوية تضمنت تعهدات بعدم التعرض للجمعية وأعضائها أو عرقلة عملها

Serious Challenge Reached Threatening Our Lives at the PHRO

This executive report was prepared in light of the serious challenge that reached threatening our lives at the Palestinian Human Rights Organization (PHRO), in particular the lives and safety of both, Mr. Ghassan Abdallah – General Director, and Mr. Edward Kattoura – Vice President, since they are directly involved in following up a human rights violation case. Within this case, there are others whom are threatened. This will become clearer through this document.
